Two days into Lexcode, I found myself leading the website revamp team. While excited at the opportunity, the challenges we faced and the growth we experienced went beyond my expectations.
We were a team composed entirely of new employees fresh from training, facing a significant challenge right out of the gate: a major project with a tight 30-day deadline, with me at the helm. None of us had tackled a task of this magnitude before, nor were we familiar with the tools we had available. Despite this, we were expected to deliver on features that seemed daunting to implement. Our task? A complete overhaul of our company website, requiring us to start from scratch using tools like Figma, WordPress, and a document detailing expected features.
Our journey encountered a few hurdles from the start as we attempted to create planners and establish deadlines for each subteam. Unfortunately, this approach proved inefficient, as we found ourselves dedicating more time to planning and organization than working on the actual project. Recognizing the need for a change, we opted for a new strategy: empowering each member to select tasks aligned with their strengths while setting weekly expectations for our progress as a whole. With this approach in mind, our 30-day journey was divided into 3 distinct parts.
First was the planning phase. We needed to understand the company, its needs, and its purpose before we could give it a new home. During this phase, our team grew a deeper understanding of Lexcode, the people involved, and its purpose in connecting cultures. With that knowledge in mind, our team now moved to the next part: the design phase. We used each other’s creative skills for the website’s writing, imagery, and overall content. After completing the design phase, we transitioned seamlessly into the development phase, where our programmers brought our ideas to life with our website. Our team aimed to capture the essence of Lexcode’s mission and values, ensuring that our website reflects the dedication and expertise that define our company, marking a significant milestone in our journey of growth and innovation.
