A Day in the Life of a Localization Project Assistant

The world of localization often goes underappreciated, but it plays a pivotal role in making global communication seamless. As a project assistant in the IPM Team, my daily tasks require a mix of coordination, precision, and adaptability. Here’s a glimpse into my daily routine and the behind-the-scenes work that ensures projects run smoothly.

Let me take you through a typical day in my life.

Starting My Day

As a hybrid employee, my daily routine varies depending on where I’m stationed. On on-site days, I start my morning at 4:00 a.m., preparing for the commute. By 6:30 a.m., I’ll be on the bus, going from Alabang to Makati, navigating the city’s hustle and bustle. Finally, I’ll clock in by 8:00 a.m., ready to tackle the tasks ahead.

On work-from-home days, I get the luxury to lay back a little, waking up at 6:30 a.m. Without the need to commute, I can take my morning easy before diving into my responsibilities.

Balancing the Hybrid Work Setup

The hybrid work setup has taught me the importance of adaptability. On-site days come with their own set of challenges, from battling traffic to adjusting to office dynamics. However, they also allow for in-person interactions, which often spark collaboration and creativity. Meanwhile, work-from-home days give me the flexibility to focus on tasks without commuting. Regardless of where I am, the goal remains the same: to deliver quality work and support the team effectively.

The Workday

My primary responsibility is to coordinate with Project Leaders and Managers from both headquarters (HQ – Seoul) and our team in the Philippines (PH – Manila). Whether it’s processing quotes, listing up glossaries, or cross-checking file requests, every task plays a critical role in ensuring successful localization.

Quote requests help scope projects financially and ensure accurate estimates.

Glossary requests provide consistency in terminologies—crucial for maintaining localization quality.

IPM project handling involves overseeing various stages of the localization process, ensuring timely completion.

File cross-checking ensures that every detail, from formatting to adherence to project guidelines, is accurate and aligned.

Why I Love What I Do

Every day, I’m faced with new challenges—a sudden big request from HQ, a tight deadline, or an unexpected issue. However, that’s part of what makes my role exciting. It keeps me thrilled and pushes me to find solutions quickly.

The localization field is fast-paced, and priorities shift quickly. Flexibility is key, especially when addressing urgent requests or resolving unexpected challenges.

Being a project assistant in the IPM team allows me to contribute to something bigger than myself. It’s not just about managing tasks—it’s about connecting people through language, ensuring quality, and making global communication possible, and that’s what keeps me going.
